Groups and Ministries

Pastoral Care Our pastor is available to talk to you about your walk of faith. Along with his regular duties here at church, Pastor visits the sick and shut-ins, offers pastoral counseling, he is always available to talk about “pastoral acts” you may wish to received such as baptism, first communion and confirmation instruction, weddings, and funerals.

Youth During the school year, and at various times in the summer, our youth meet to study, get involved with various service projects, and enjoy solid Christian fellowship with other high school students. In addition to weekly events here at Redeemer, we also participate in events in the area. Beyond our neighborhood, we attend such things as the National Youth Gathering where more than 35,000 youth come together for some of the most amazing opportunities for worship, learning, and outstanding Christian concerts. We welcome all youth to join us.

Ladies Aid Our ladies gather each month for study and fellowship. As part of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, we collect “Mites” to support mission projects throughout the world. In the fall, we have the opportunity to gather with other women of all ages at a retreat in Pennsylvania. In alternating years, we have district and national conventions where women from this area and from around the world gather for worship, study, service projects, and some of the best fellowship possible.

Glendale Grandmother’s Club Redeemer is the host of the local gathering of grandmothers regardless of church affiliation. The ladies enjoy monthly meetings where they have fellowship, work on projects that serve people with various needs, and enjoy playing bingo.

Special Events Special services are held around Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Additionally, we participate in the annual Anniversary Day Parade, have monthly “Grocery Bingo,” and other traditional and unique events.

In addition to these groups, we have small groups that help with the overall ministry of Redeemer. New members are always welcome! Here is a sampling of how people serve God together here at Redeemer:

Greeters – People at the door each week welcome visitors and members to worship services and are available to answer any questions.

Ushers – Men and women assist pastor by giving out Sunday bulletins with information about the service and the week ahead. Additionally, the ushers serve by gathering the offerings of the people and coordinate the movement of people forward for Holy Communion

Lectors – During our worship services, men and women of the congregation assist by reading two selections from the Bible.

Acolytes – Younger boys and girls participate in the worship service by lighting the candles. They also assist in other ways by being crucifer (the person who carries in the cross if there is a procession), bring the offerings to the altar, and assist Pastor during the service.

Eucharist Assistant – During the part of the service called “Holy Communion,” the people receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and for the strengthening of their faith. During this very special time of the service, Pastor and the Eucharist Assistant bring Holy Communion to each person.

Other – Many opportunities exist for people who want to share their gifts. Perhaps you might want to participate by playing a musical instrument, organizing a special event, or have an idea you would like to share. You are invited to be a part of God’s family here at Redeemer.
